DecHow to make New Year’s resolutions work?
Hello my beautiful Angels,
Christmas is almost here and I hope you are all going well. Tomorrow, it will be my last day at work before the Christmas break and I really look forward to it.
Let’s talk about New Year’s resolutions. As you know, they often do not work as many people lose motivation quite quickly. Do you want to know why?
1. Personalised plan
There is a difference between what you think you should do and what you really want to do. If you base your goals on other people expectations (e.g. get fit by summer and look like the nice woman on Instagram), things will not be working for sure. Always ask yourself : “What is the best thing for me (not for anybody else)”? Design your own personalised plan. You are unique, this is why your resolutions need to be unique.
2. Find the right time to initiate a change
I am not sure that the weeks following the Christmas break are the best moment to initiate a change. This is because the pressure might be so high so many of you will give up after a few weeks. You can make a change at any time actually. Choose a moment when you feel ready and go for it.
3. Don’t set up short-term goals. Create a lifestyle instead.
Determination and perseverance are the keys to a successful and permanent change. If you want to reach a huge change in a short period of time (e.g. getting super fit for the summer holidays), you will sabotage yourself. This is because change takes time, a lot of time… What happens is that after a few months, you will notice that you are not fit enough and you might potentially lose motivation.
To sum up: successful change needs a personalised & tailored plan + to select a right time to start changing + to work towards a lifestyle, instead of looking for quick fixes.
