Five ways to build a successful career

Having a job and having a career are two different things. People usually do the first to survive i.e. to pay their bills; their mortgage and to afford the cost of life. Some people are lucky enough to do the second – build a career that aligns with their inspiration and life philosophy.

Here are five tips that will help you reflect on how to build a career.

Value

Before you start a job, think about what is of value to you. Make your own definition of what type of profession and area you want to invest in; what type of people you would like to interact with; what type of value you want to bring to society; how much money you want to make and what knowledge you wish to acquire.

A job without value will never give you the opportunity to grow as an individual and a professional. Think about value before you start a job.

Mentoring

Surround yourself with people who will help you grow and act as mentors and role models for you. Mentoring will give you a structure and will frame your ideas and inspirations. Research has demonstrated that having a mentor significantly increases your chances for success.

Learn and improve yourself

One of the secrets of success is to continuously learning and improving yourself, especially when you combine it with self-observation and self-reflection. If you want to learn more about self-reflection, click here.

These behaviours help you think in terms of ideas and solutions, rather than focusing on problems. In this way, you will gradually expand your horizon and develop a strong sense of self-worth.

Success has a price

Everyone who is willing to pay the price will reach success. Be prepared to work hard and to do more than is expected from you. Every big thing requires a big effort. Try to remove distractions and learn how to focus and how to maintain a strong discipline. Always focus on your priorities and never stop working.

Enjoyable career

Last but not least, choose a career that is enjoyable, then money and success will come naturally. Research has shown that happiness is the best ingredient for success. If you love what you do, success comes naturally.
